Lexi and I have been up since a little after 4:30 this morning, and she refused to take a nap, so we needed something to do this afternoon. She likes to help mommy in the kitchen, so I decided we could make cookies to take to grandma’s house later. I pulled out my grandmother’s cookbook and turned to her peanut butter blossoms. I remember making these with my mom as a child. She would let me roll the dough balls in sugar and unwrap the Hershey’s kisses. Lexi didn’t quite understand how to roll the balls yet – she kind of would squish them in the sugar – but she had fun helping out!
This recipe is really easy – you can pour all the ingredients in the bowl before turning on the mixer. To make it toddler friendly, I measured out each ingredient and let Lexi dump them in. Some of our sugar ended up outside of the bowl, but the cookies still ended up sweet enough. 🙂

Once the dough was mixed, I used my small cookie scoop to make the balls all the same size. I shaped them in my hands, and then let Lexi roll them around in a bowl of sugar. Then they went onto a baking sheet and into the oven! They cooked at 375 for 10 minutes. (I tend to go on the minimum side when it comes to baking times because they continue to cook for a bit once they’re out.) While they’re baking, begin unwrapping your Hershey kisses!
Immediately after removing from the oven, I topped each with a Hershey hug or kiss and then moved them to a rack to cool. We hope you enjoy this recipe as much as we do!
Recipe for Peanut Butter Blossoms
Ingredients:
1 ¾ c flour
1 tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
½ c sugar (plus additional for rolling)
½ c brown sugar, packed
½ c shortening
½ c peanut butter
1 egg
2 Tbsp milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
Hershey’s kisses
Directions:
Combine all ingredients, except the candy and additional sugar, in a large mixing bowl. Mix on the lowest speed until dough forms. Shape dough into balls using a rounded teaspoonful for each. Roll balls in sugar and place on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 375 for 10-12 minutes. Top each cookie immediately with a Hershey kiss. Press down firmly so cookie cracks around the edge. Then transfer to a wire rack to cool.
My mouth is watering! Thank you : )
